Tall Ships Sail Into Duluth
Tall Ships Sail Into Duluth

Duluth will welcome three tall ships into the harbor August 1-3, with on-board tours of these fascinating replicas of historic vessels. The ships will be in port as part of the Duluth Maritime Festival, celebrating the state’s Sesquicentennial. There will be a concert at Bayfront Festival Park Saturday evening, with other entertainment planned for the weekend, as well.

The ships include the U.S. Brig Niagara (198-feet-long) and the schooner Pride of Baltimore II (157-feet), both replicas of the warships that took part in the War of 1812 against Great Britain. The third is the Madeline (92 feet), a replica of an 1840s schooner used as a commercial vessel. They will be docked near the DECC (Duluth Entertainment and Convention Center), close to the landmark Aerial Lift Bridge.

The public will be able to tour the ships from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday through Sunday. Purchasing tickets in advance is recommended. To buy tickets, go to http://www.decc.org/ after April 14 and link to Ticketmaster.

Nice updated site. Would be very nice to be able to email forward the individual promo’d items to others. Not just print.

My son and I saw the tall ships sail into the harbor at Philadelphia during the Bicentennial year..and were fortunate enough to tour one. I would recommend this experience to everyone, but especially those with children, who need to learn more about history. It’s a great way to see how people did things early in our country’s history, and have some fun at the same time!

That sounds like a real thrill, Mary. I hope you get a chance to see and tour these ships in Duluth in August.

    Hi Kathy,

our travel counselors were able to locate a site which offers quite a bit of information regarding boats entering the Duluth harbor, including a boat’s age, country of origin, and estimated time of arrival time. Please check it out at http://duluthboats.com/schedule.html

Hope that helps–have a wonderful time!
    Chris
