Oxtrot: Looking for Babe around Brainerd Lakes
Print This Post

Babe the tie-dyed Ox
Where’s Babe? As in “Babe, the Blue Ox,” sidekick to the legendary lumberjack Paul Bunyan. This summer, in the Brainerd Lakes area, it will seem like Babe is everywhere.
Only he won’t necessarily be blue. The Oxtrot, “An Oxpedition of Art in the Lakes Area,” will present 20 to 30 five-foot tall fiberglass statues of Babe painted by area artists as a public art display. The statues will be placed throughout the Brainerd Lakes area, including the communities of Crosslake, Pine River, Brainerd and Pequot Lakes.
The Oxtrot will kick off during the Governor’s Fishing Opener, which will be held May 9-11 in Pequot Lakes and Breezy Point, and the statues will be on display through Labor Day. Visitors who make it to all the Oxtrot locations can register to win a getaway in the Brainerd Lakes area.
Oxtrot locations will be noted on the Brainerd Lakes Area visitors map, available at all area visitors information centers, including the Welcome Center south of Brainerd on Hwy. 371. They will also be posted online at www.theoxtrot.com
