With its brilliant backdrop of foliage tinted in reds and yellows, autumn is the perfect time for a scenic drive or a hike or bike ride along a secluded trail. That’s what the song says, and women agree: those special times when the ladies get away together are a great time. A 2007 survey by AAA found that one of four women have taken a getaway with their women friends.

CivicFest: All Things Presidential  
While Republicans are nominating their presidential candidate in St. Paul this September, a major event in Minneapolis will offer an inside look at the lives of American presidents. CivicFest: A Very Minnesota Celebration, to be held at the Minneapolis Convention Center Aug. 29-Sept. 4, will feature more than 30 educational and entertaining exhibits focusing on the U.S. presidency.

The concept of “green getaways” is taking off as more people plan trips to enjoy the local flavor of a destination and visit environmentally friendly sites and businesses.
 
Discover Beautiful Lake Vermilion  
Lake Vermilion, in northeast Minnesota, made the news this spring when state funding was approved to purchase land on the southeast shore to develop a new state park. This major new park will provide public access to one of the largest and most beautiful lakes in the state.

State Park Stays: Now You Can Reserve a Year Ahead  
All Minnesota State Parks camping and lodging reservations may now be made up to one year in advance, allowing travelers to make plans to stay at a park earlier than under the previous policy. Visitors may book next year’s camping vacation during or soon after this year’s trip, while their favorite places and campsite is fresh in their mind.

 

 
Vatican Exhibit Graces St. Paul  
This fall the Minnesota History Center in St. Paul will host the special touring exhibit “Vatican Splendors from Saint Peter’s Basilica, the Vatican Museums and the Swiss Guard.” This is the final of only three U.S. engagements for this rare exhibit of approximately 200 cultural, historical and artistic objects from the Vatican.
